"That one"

My oldest daughter has been helping so much since I went to the hospital and then home to recoup. Today she brought me cake pops, flowers and card telling me she doesn't know how I do it. (And some other super sweet sappy stuff that melted my heart)

So I told her about this story. She had never heard it, so I thought I would share it here too, in case others had also missed out on it :)

I get told a lot I can't save the world. which I understand, but I can make a difference to "that one"

The Starfish Story

A young girl was walking along a beach upon which thousands of starfish had been washed up during a terrible storm. When she came to each starfish, she would pick it up, and throw it back into the ocean. People watched her with amusement.
She had been doing this for some time when a man approached her and said, “Little girl, why are you doing this? Look at this beach! You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!”
The girl seemed crushed, suddenly deflated. But after a few moments, she bent down, picked up another starfish, and hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied,
“Well, I made a difference to that one!”

I've been struggling over the past few days with what I can do as an individual to address many of the severe problems people face in the world today. They are so huge. When I was pondering yesterday, the starfish story came to mind.

I haven't been to your blog for a while, and I had no particular reason to visit today, but I did, and again was presented with the starfish story. I think someone is telling me I' should act on the thoughts I had yesterday.

Thank you for your post and for your friendship.
